The Distance Between Us

The Distance Between Us - Kasie West Cayman was raised by a single mother when her wealthy father ran out during the pregnancy conversation with her mom. His rich parents bought her mom's silence all those years ago which afforded her mom the opportunity to open a doll shop in town. Her mom's own parents disowned her at the thought of an out-of-wedlock baby, so it's busy been the two of them for the last seventeen years. Cayman has given up on the thought of going to college and leaving her mom to deal with the struggling business. Then Xander walks in to the doll shop one day to pick up a package for his grandmother and Cayman has the feeling that life is about to get a little less dull for a change. She thinks he's arrogant and pretentious at first, but Xander wears down her defenses, slowly but surely, just by being himself. She's not sure she trusts what she sees with him, always questioning his motives, and things only get worse when her mom's secrets come to light. Will Cayman get to decide her own future? Will her mom finally tell the truth about her life? Is Xander who he really says he is? This was a fantastic book, with very witty and engaging characters. Cayman's sarcasm and Xander's rebuttals made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Very cute story with a happy ending.
